Allocating My Time

Now that I’ve freed up a bunch of time and know my sole focus for the next year, it’s really just a matter of getting some shit done.

I was gonna write this long convoluted post about what I’ll be focusing my efforts on. But it really just boils down to one thing at the end of the day:

I want to get good at making games.

And the only way I’m gonna get good at making games, is by… making games.

Who would’ve thought!

Now while I do reckon that having a bunch of things to do that are fun and game related in my down time is going to be important - it ain’t anywhere near as important as just putting in a shit ton of hours working.

The reason I’m writing this right now (and not just silently making my next game) is because I’m currently 10,000 meters in the air, smack bang in the middle of the South Pacific Ocean.

Which is a… strange thought.

It’s been quite a while since I’ve had some stability in my life - and by stability I mean staying in the one spot for longer than 2 months.

So I booked a plane ticket to Argentina, and here I am - zipping towards it at 800km/hour.

Anywho, back to game dev.

Once I’m all settled in, I’m going to be spending this next year pumping out a shit ton of games.

My current goal is to make a game for every letter of the alphabet on a bi-monthly basis, which was inspired by John Carmack in this clip.

I’ll begin my first one on Sept 1st.

There’s no use allocating my time with a high-level of detail just yet. I can’t exactly predict my routine ahead of time.

But what I can say is that I’ll be trying my absolute best to maximise my 14 hour window each day in order to get as much work done as possible.

I’m orienting my every waking minute around one thing, and one thing only…

Becoming one of the world’s best game developers.

In the mean time, I’m gonna go get settled into this new city.
